the arrival of the Red Cross detachment. Our
work during March included transporting three
large contingents to Neuenburg—specifically,
2200 Danes and Norwegians from the
concentration camp at Sachsenhausen, to the north of
Berlin; 600 Scandinavians from Dachau, near
Munich; and 1600 policemen from various camps
northwest of Dresden. The transferrals from
Sachsenhausen were carried out in seven relays
between March 15th and March 30th. As soon as
we had made sure of a supply of gasoline a column
of thirty-five vehicles was formed for the run to
Dachau, a round-trip distance of eleven hundred
miles. The column left on March 19th, under the
command of Colonel Björck personally, and by
March 24th the task had been completed without
any mishaps. Finally, at the end of March, the
Danish policemen had been collected from the
various camps.
It is not necessary for me to enter into a detailed
account of the work of the expedition, as I
understand that this will be the subject of a special
report.
