April 24th–May 7th
On my arrival in Stockholm on April 24th I
immediately called at the Foreign Office, where
I met the Foreign Minister, Christian E. Günther,
Erik C. Boheman, Permanent Under Secretary of
State, and Eric von Post, head of the Political
Department of the Foreign Office. This was at nine
o’clock. An hour later Mr. Günther and I called
on the Prime Minister, and at eleven o’clock we
arrived at the Foreign Office, where I made my
report. Himmler’s proposal was directed
exclusively to the Western Allies, a method of
negotiation which, according to the officials of the
Foreign Office, was not practicable in view of the
obvious necessity of informing the Soviet Union.
