Fredrik Hasselqvist, born 1722, student, 1741,
disputed pro exerc. under Linnzeus pres, 1747, ‘“‘de
viribus plantarum,” sailed August, 1749, from Stock-
holm direct to Smyrna, where his relative, And.
Rydelius, was Swedish Consul-General. After an
excursion in the Spring of 1750, in Natolia to
Magnesia ad Sipylum, he proceeded in May through
Alexandria and Loretto to Cairo, where he remained
almost a whole year. Since more money had been

collected by voluntary contributions in Sweden, for
