His Brittanic Majestys ship «Spencer»
25 Septr. 1807.
Sir.
The Danish fleet at Copenhaguen has surrendered to
a superior British force. I am ordered by my admiral
to demand the ship, You command. I wish to execute
these ordres with as little bloodshed as possible. A much
superior force is now before You. Any resistance will
only aggravate Your fate and draw down inevitable ruin
upon the town of Christianssand.
I have the honour to be, Sir, Your most
obedient humble Servant

Den EN JESSENS svar lød:
His Danish Majestys ship «Prinds Christian
Frederik» 27. septr. 1807.
SIE.
The ship I have the honour to command, and
which is not mentioned in the.list of the Danish ships
and vessels, delivered up to a superior force of His
Brittanic Majestys, will defend itself to the utmost of
its. power against any superior force, — my fate may be
as it will.
I can not help if the barbarity of the English force
should draw down ruin upon the town of Christianssand.
I have the honour to be, Sir, Your most
