R é s u m é,

Duva, g. n.

Generic Character.

The zoanthodeme having the form of a tree, very much subdivided. The basal part of the trunk broad. The
mainbranches long, soft, flexible, and either dividing into small subsidiary branches, these again into divers branchlets — each
bearing at the extremity several polyps — or remaining undivided, but in that case, too, bearing at the extremity an
assemblage of polyps, in part united at the base, in part separated by a slender coenenchym. The polyps non-retractile, short
but well developed, furnished with long, spindle-shaped, thorny spicules. The branches and small subsidiary branchlets without
any calcareous deposit. The spicules on the trunk occurring partly as short multiradial spindles, partly as simple double stars,
in neither case visible to the naked eye. The septa without any calcareous deposit.

Duva rosea, n. s p.

Tab. I, figs, i—to. Tab. II, figs. I—12.
