The medical part of Ling’s system is divided into

I. PASSIVE MOVEMENTS.

A passive movement is one which is executed on the patient,
or with a part of him, he himself being entirely at rest.

The passive movements are as follows:—

1. Effleurage.

2. Pétrissage.

3. Tapotement.

4. Massage à friction.

5. Rolling and shaking of the muscles.

6. Shakings.

7. Vibrations.

8. Nerve vibrations.

9. Passive extension of muscles.
