GENERAL ROLLING AND SHAKING OF THE
MUSCLES OP THE EXTREMITIES.
The rolling and the shaking can easily be made at the same
time on the limbs. The mixscles must be completely relaxed.
Take, for instance, the arm. The patient holds it in a horizontal

position by steadying the hand on a table or the back of a chair.
Both hands of the operator are placed lightly on the arm, and
are moved quickly round it as they pass up and down two or
three times (fig, 19).
The effect is very stimulating and agreeable to the patient.
This manipulation should be used after petrissage, but may
also be given alone in cases where there is no cause for a more
special treatment of any particular muscle.
