the patient bends slightly forwards, in order to relax the
abdominal muscles. In the third he lies in the prone position,
with the legs a little apart, and the toes turned inwards in order
to give more room.
When the bladder is acted upon from above, the fingers are
placed about one inch superior to the pubic arch, and the direc-

tion of the shaking is from above, downwards and backwards.
In the perineum the fingers are placed just in front of the
anal aperture, and the movement passes downwards and for-
wards.
By this manipulation we act on the bladder and the prostate,
and if we change the direction from below upwards in the
prone position, the lower part of the rectum comes in for treat-
ment.
