vi Introductory Remarks.

genuine, healthy morality, yet giving at the same
time a wide berth to the nauseous infliction upon
the child of the cut-and-dried morality so com-
mon in their story-books.

The translation has been entrusted to Mr. Albert
Alberg, who has throughout striven to maintain the
true spirit of the original.

With these words of recommendation—more we
consider are not needed—we commit this book
to the hands of an intelligent and child-loving

public.
