minerals from them. The following day we made an excursion from Oh
dervik, to Oldervikvand — Tverfjeldet and went down to Altenes. The
next morning at 5 o’clock I had to leave Seiland.

My stay in Seiland thus lasted only one day and a half, and my
observations are therefore very deficient and much remains to be done
with the interesting geology of Seiland and environs.
The rocks in the neighbourhood of Oldervik. At the
south-eastern part of the island we find the garnet »bearing gneiss
mentioned by K. Pettersen. Mr. J. Schetelig, who has kindly under»
taken the examination of the rocks and minerals, says that it looks
rather quartzitic; the prominent minerals are: quartz, feldspar, entirely
altered, garnet, biotite and a little iron ore. The structure is secondary.
