edition of the preface had been printed, most of the inconsequen-
ces generally having been caused by the circumstance, that the
Preface is a reprint of my thesis. I have tried to correct and
supplement it, but most of the available time having been occupied
by the printing of the text, the preface had to be hurried through
the press. This is one of the reasons why Dr Olson with a sort
of hypercriticism, of which not one of our ”stilister” whom I have
consulted approves, saw fit to comment on my Swedish of 1906.
It is a matter of very little importance, but I wish to call special
attention to these uncalled-for remarks, because, to Swedish readers
at least, nothing can afford better evidence for Dr Olson’s ten-
dency to catch at straws. I have noticed that some misprints and
colloquial forms of verbal inflection have escaped both Dr Celan-
der’s and my attention, but I could point out worse blunders in
my preface and notes than those Dr Olson mentions. Even if he
personally prefers to lable me as an alien and to imply that he
objects to my writing about a Norse subject in the Norse language
of my own country, a blow like his verdict ought to be suppor-
ted by better reasons, if it is not to be understood as mere illibe-
rally. Suppose a countryman of ours, who by exterior circum-
stances of life has acquired one of the more universal languages
in which our scholars are compelled to write their works, under-
took to criticise their style, would not this be considered as bad
taste?
A list of misprints and other corrigenda will be published
along with the above-mentioned Part II of my treatise on KgsA.
It will, so far at least as my natural gift for äuQlßeia is concer-
ned, shew, whether Dr Olson’s judgement was quite fair.

Svar.
Dr Buergel Goodwins ovanstående ”remark” till min anmä-
lan i Arkiv 26: 87 fif. kräver icke många rader till svar. Endast
i en enda punkt har Dr B. G. gjort ett försök till vederläggning
av mina anmärkningar, som kan tagas på allvar. Det gäller läs-
ningen av det 21 v 2 2 över raden stående ordet: enl. honom tapez,
enl. mig tapet. Och även i denna punkt är det åtminstone m yc-
k e t tv iv e la k tig t, om han har rätt. Då jag ej haft tillfälle till
förnyad granskning av hskr., har jag bett prof. Finnur Jonsson i
Köpenhamn, en forskare, vars auktoritet i fråga om läsning av fisl.
hskr. Dr B. G. icke torde vilja bestrida, att se på stället, och denne
