Wadströms yttranden inför kommittén citeras passim i denna lilla, i
agitationssyfte utgifna skrift.
The Debate ön a Motion for the Abolition of the Slave-Trade, in the House
of Commons, ön Monday and Tuesday, April 18 and 19, 1791, reported
in detail. Lond. 1791. 124 sid. 8°.
Denna debatt inleddes af Wilberforce med ett längre anförande. Redan
i början af detta (s. 4) citerade han Wadström, »whose curious and
interest-ing relation, he could not doubt, had attracted the attention of every
Gentleman who had looked into the evidence.» Hufvudtalaren å abolitionisternas
sida var för öfrigt Fox; äfven han stödde sig på fakta uppenbarligen
hämtade från Wadströms vittnesmål (s. 111), ehuru dennes namn icke nämnes i
referatet. Såväl Wilberforce som Fox slösade dock denna gång förgäfves
med sin vältalighet: motionen om förbud för slafhandeln afslogs af
underhuset med 163 röster mot 88.
Wadströms samtida verksamhet för slafhandelns undertryckande
inskränkte sig dock ej till hans uppträdande inför de officiella
undersökningskommissionerna. Om hans nit för en rörelse, hvari han måhända mera
tillfälligt än afsiktligt blifvit inledd, vittna följande publikationer:
