Preface to the Digital Edition

America of the Fifities: Letters of Fredrika Bremer, selected and edited by Adolph B. Benson, were published in 1924. This book is volume XXIII (23) in the Scandinavian Classics series from the American-Scandinavian Foundation. The titles of the series are listed at the end of the volume.

The book has U.S. Library of Congress call number E166.B837, where it was digitized as part of the American Memory collection titled "American Notes: Travels in America, 1750-1920". Project Runeberg got the facsimile images from there. They are scanned in black-white, unfortunately only in 300 dpi. We have removed skew that was present in some images and run OCR to get a searchable and editable text, that we hope will soon be proofread.

This volume was scanned by the Library of Congress, U.S.A., from where the scanned images were copied to Project Runeberg. We very much appreciate that they have made this possible and want to encourage other digital library projects to follow their example. Read more about Project Runeberg's image sources.
