The language of the Laplanders isa harfh and unintel-
ligible Jargon derived from: their neighbours, the ancient
Inhabitants of Finland. Their voices however are mufical
"and they never require much entreaty to oblige. The few
{pecimens which we poflefs of Lapland Poetry, give you
a favorable impreffion of their ¢a/fe, and tafte molt certainly
it is, uncorrupted by foreign Ideas, and entirely the pro-
du€tion ofnature. In the Speétator you have two elegant
Odes tranflated from the language of Lapland (Nos. 366
and 406. ) I fhall make no apology for adding a third,
