The Religion of the Inhabitants of Finland, hie thofe

wanting to make them real Chriftians. It would be a
charitable a€lion, nay I could go farther and fay, that it is
the duty ofall the neighbouring Sovereigns to endeavour
to inculcate the knowledge of true Chriftianity into this,
yet unenlightened, People. They are not feparated by
unnavigable Seas, or inacceflible mountains. Their un-
derflandings, though unimproved, are not mean: their
tempers, though rough and uncivilized, are yet gentle
enough to receive Inflru@ion. It would bea glorious att
to undertake to civilize this ferocious people. I would not
here be underflood to mean that this is a general defcrip-
tion ofall ranks of men in this diftri€t of the Globe. I
would confine thefe obfervations tothe mountain Inhabi-
tants, for the Inhabitants of theirlarge Towns and other
places of trade are not far behind the reft of the world
in the arts of Life, or in the cultivation of Religion.
