(Öfversättningsprof for afgångsexamen vid elementarskolorna

höstterminen 1876.)

Konung Alfons af Neapel hade vid sitt hof en narr, hvilken
i sin anteckningsbok uppskref alla dårskaper, som hofmännen
be-gingo. En dag ville konungen läsa hvad som stod skrifvet deri,
och blef mycket öfverraskad af att finna sitt namn i spetsen för
en lång rad af andra namn. »Hvilken dårskap har ’-jag ’då
begått», frågade honom konungen, »eftersom (that) du har uppfört
mig i denna förteckning?» — »Ers Majestät», svarade narren, »Ni
har lemnat en mohr två tusen dukater med uppdrag att fara till
Berberiet och köpa hästar, och Ni har utan tvifvel handlat
dåraktigt" då Ni satte lit till en man, som har hvarken tro eller
heder; han lär nog stanna qvar i sitt land med edra pengar.» —
»Men», svarade konungen, »om lian kommer tillbaka med hästar
eller återlemnar mig mina pengar, hvad skall du då säga?» —
— »Då», genmälde narren, »skall jag stryka 3ut ’Edert -namn ur
min bok och sätta dit hans.»
