Clara. How delightful! And will you take us out in a
boat very often, papa?

Mrs. M. Poor papa will have no enjoyment of it, for
he is obliged to go to Russia on business.

Miss Locke. Then I fear that you too will have but
little enjoyment, for 1 know that you have never been
separated from your husband.

Mrs. M. It will be a trial to us. both. I must bear it
patiently and try and regain my strength, so as to cheer him

Miss L. What have we here! A fine roast fowl. Give
me a dish, Fanny, a small one.

Fanny. And here is a veal-pie, and a leg of lamb; and
what can be tied up so carefully in this bowl? A salad, I
declare!

Clara. Here is a tart. What a pity the juice has
run out.

Miss L. Mind, Clara! It is dripping on to your dress.
Put the dish down on this straw, until we find a cloth to
wipe it. Here is one at the bottom of the basket in which
the plates are packed. Do not draw it out so hastily, you
will crack the plates.

Clara. It is not the best dinner service, Miss Locke.

Miss Loclte. That is not the smallest reason why this
should be broken, dear Clara. Now let me see how you
