With tea, they often serve hot
muffins, toast, cakes, and
sandwiches (thin slices, of bread
and butter, with meat,
cucumber, or marmalade between).
I generally have a very light
supper: bread and butter,
cheese, eggs, a little cold meat
or marmalade, a cup of tea or
chocolate, or a bottle of ale.
It is not good to eat a heavy
meal at night, and I find I
sleep better after a light one.
My uncle, who lives in
Stockholm, has »låte dinner»
at seven o’clock and a lighter
meal or »lunch» at 1 o’clock.
He does not come home from
the office until 6 o’clock. He
is a very busy man.
Do you have your meals at
a restaurant? — No, I have
them at home.
May I trouble you for (to

pass me the salt, please?

any more. (I have had quite
