22. How I Spend my
Day.
What time do you wake up
in the morning? — I generally
wake up at seven o’clock. —
Don’t you oversleep yourself?
— No, I don’t, because I set
my alarum clock to ring at
seven o’clock. — Do you get
up at once? — Yes I do, I
can’t afford to waste time
lying in bed. When I have
got out of bed, I go to the
window, and pull up the blind.
Then I wake my brother
Charlie, who is peacefully
snoring in bed. He rubs his
eyes, yawns, and says: »Good
morning. Is it time to get
up?» I need not ask him:
»Did you sleep well last
night?» (»Have you had a
good night»), for he always
sleeps like a log.
When I have waked Charlie,
I have a cold bath, and begin
to dress. I wash my face and
hands with plenty of soap, and
dry myself on a towel. I put
on my socks and boots, my
vest, pants, shirt and trousers,
I brush my teeth with a
toothbrush and some tooth-paste
or powder, and then I shave
myself with a safety razor,
which I much prefer to an
ordinary razor. I brush my
hair and make a parting on
