Uthreclningsbältet på längden har i rundt tal för en och hvar af
dessa arter en utsträckning af 90 grader. Förutom dessa fyra
arter träffas följande mer eller mindre allmänt under regntiden i
det ifrågavarande, södra tropifebältet: Pliyllopsneustes trocliilus,
Löfsmygen, Calamodus schoenobænus, Säfstigen, Oriolus galbula,
Sommargölingen, Lanius minor, mindre varfoglen, Blldytes flava,
Gularlan, Agrodroma campestris, Fältpiplärkan, Cuculus canorus,
Göken, Coracias garrula, Blåkråkan, Merops apiaster, Biätarcn,
Tlnntmculus Liiméi, Tonffalfeen, Coturnix Liiméi, Vakteln, —
en otrolig mängd utaf denna art nedkom år 1865 ända till
Cap-staden, eller 5 grader ändå sydligare — Ardea cinerea, Hägern,
Ciconia Liiméi, Storken, Glo t,t is Linnéi, Glutten, Totanus
glareola, Grönbenan, Åctitis liypoleucus, Drillsnäppan, Machetes
pugnax, Brushanen, Tringa cauutus, Kustpyttan, Tringa
suhar-quata, Bågpyttan, Tringa minuta, Småpyttan, Calidris arenaria,
Sandlöparen, Telmatias major, Beckasinen, Strcpsilas interpres,
Höttringen, Squatarola helvetica, Gråvipan, Ægialites
liiati-cula, Sandnillingeu, Actochelidon cantiaca, Diihheltärnan,
Sterna liirundo, Tärnan, Sterna caspia, Skräntärnau,
Copro-theres pomarinus, Mellanlabben, Lestris parasitica, Smålabhen
och Colymhus minor, Smådoppingen.
De stora förändringar, som ega rum under regntiden invid
södra tropiken, har Andersson, uti det nämda verket, pag. XXIX,
med egna ord i korthet skildrat, som följer:
„It is during the rainy time of the year that the greatest
variety of hirds is to he observed; for, though all but deserts during
the dry seasou, Damara and Namaqua Land, from their peculiar
positions &c., are then a regular paradise to the feathercd trihes,
the insect- and reptile-life heing at that period exceedingly prolific.
Swarms of migratory Hawks and Ivites may then he ohserved in
pursuit of the myriads of Termites, which at this season infest the
air, hut at the same time hrighten it, as it were, with iumimerahle
silvery dots and streaks as their gorgeous wings and white bodies
encounter the fiery sunlight. liere and there a flock of Storks
may he ohserved busily chasing the clevastating locusts, or performing
graceful gyrations in the air; and whilst tho temporary raiu-pools
often ahonnd with rare and handsome Waterfowl, the shores are
frequented hy the elegant Heron, the lively Sandpiper, the graceful
