Preface to the electronic edition

Project Runeberg digitizes and publishes Scandinavian literature. But this book in English, published in Chicago, focusing on Russia — is it really Scandinavian literature within our scope? Perhaps it is not so in a strict sense, but our definition of Scandinavian has always been generous and inclusive. Sweden is mentioned in several places in the text and at least one contributor (N. F. Höijer) is Swedish.

This book from 1918 was digitized in December 2008 at Princeton Theological Seminary Library by the Internet Archive, from where the scanned images and OCR text in February 2020 were copied to Project Runeberg for proofreading.

For works like this that contain contributions from numerous authors, Project Runeberg digitizes and provides access to works that are 70 years old, regardless of the year of death of each individual contributor.

This volume was scanned elsewhere and made available by the Internet Archive, from where the scanned images were copied to Project Runeberg. We very much appreciate that they have made this possible and want to encourage other digital library projects to follow their example. Read more about Project Runeberg's image sources.
