Was das Theater selbst anbetriöt, so ist man
im Allgemeinen sich so ziemlich darin einig, dass
das Innre in Hinsicht des Geschmacks, Styls und
der Eleganz, das Aeussere überragt. Wohl imponirt
es durch die Grösse seiner Proportionen, doch
versöhnt. sich das Auge nicht so leicht mit den vielen
Aussprüngen und Absätzen, die den Effect des
Ganzen bedeutend vermindern.
Wahrscheinlich hat das Bestreben, dem Jnnern
alle möglichen Vortheile an Platz und
Bequemlichkeit zu gewähren, den Künstler verhindert, dem
Aeussern die Aufmerksamkeit zu widmen, die er
doch einem so grossen, monumentalen Gebäude
wie unserm Theater, schuldig gewesen wäre.

As for the theatre itself, it is the general
opinion that the interior by far surpasses the exterior
in point of taste, style and elegance.
It certainly has an imposing appearance from
the o-randeur of its dimensions, but the eye can
not complacently regard the number of buttresses
and ridges, that in a great measure diminish the
effect of the whole. . .
But probably, the endeavour to give the
interior all the advantages of space and convenience
has debarred the architect from bestowing on the
exterior all the attention^ due to so large a
monumental building as the one m question.
