centre, being the ground-floor of the large square tower. The
staircase was built during the reign of Gustavus Vasa. — Here
collections of ecclesiastical medisxeval wood sculptures.

"THE GREEN HALL”. In the splays some fragments of painting :
from the 16th century. The chimmney, too, dates from that time. —-

On the walls some church carvings from the 17th and 18th

centuries. Note: funeral arms with rich acanthus foliage.

"THE WATCH-TOWER CHAMBER”. The ceiling and some mural
paintings date from the 16ih century.

CHAPEL ROYAL. The chapel was originally built in 1589—92.
The ceiling is a typical renaissance work. ”The royal pews”
nearest to the: altar were made in 1619, they bear the initials of
Gustavus Adolphus and Queen Mary.

STATIRCASE AND PASSAGE. ”THE SOUTH-TOWER CHAMBER”.

"Italian and Dutch paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries.

"THE HALL OVER THE ROYAL KITCHEN”. Mural paintings
from the 16th century. |

"THE BURNT HALL”. The room was ruined by a great fire, in
1643. There are no remains of ancient fittings but two chimmeys.
The collections belonging to the ”Kalmar Museum” have been put
out here for show — many objects of scientific and artistic value
throwing light on the civilization of the south-east of Sweden.

CHAMBERS IN THE ”SVENNETORN” (TOWER OF SQUIRES)
AND THE ”FATBURSTORN” (STORE-ROOM TOWER).

PASSAGE. Several collections of peasant art from the Province
ci Kalmar. Please note the painted wall-coverings, typical of
Swedish peasant art.

"THE -PRINCESSES’ CHAMBERS”. Collections belonging to the
Museum.
