culars regarding the Centenary of Methodism, and in course of
conversation stated, that he intended to insert in the January number
an article on Roman Catholic Missions in China, giving an account
of the number of Bishoprics, Priests, Christians?? etc. under the charge
of Roman Catholics in that Empire; substantially the same as had already
appeared in the Allgemeine Zeitung and Stats Tidning. I immediately
suggested that as such difference of opinion existed among
papists themselves as to the justifiableness of the means employed for
spreading so called Christianity in China etc. it would not be wise
to insert such article in our Tidning; and urged delay on the ground
also, that I was aware Bishop Wingård was now reading a recent
publication on China, and would do with it as he had done with
»Williams». — B. defended his point very strongly yet left me (as
I understood) promising delay till at least your article appeared; but
in a day or two I was informed that his account occupying a page
& half of the paper was in type, although Keyser and the printer,
had both advised him to substitute something else. The Committee
of four which has from the beginning published both Missions
Tidningen & Fosterlands-vännen was then called together, and it was
unanimously and cordially agreed that Blixéns article ought not to
appear in the Missions-Tidning, but that paper in unison with the
designation of the Swed. Miss. Soc. and the former course pursued,
should hereafter confine itself to accounts of the progress of
»Protestant» Missions among the heathen. Mr. B. was highly offended
and instantly gave up all connection with the paper urging the
insertion of the advertisement which now appears. My dear Brother
Brusewitz has undertaken for the present to edit the paper, but as
he is appointed Secretary to the »Fattigwårds Committé» his time
will be much occupied for a month or two, and he will need help
from the friends of Missions who can help in this matter; more I
need not say to you — a word to the wise is enough.

Our Missionary Direction has now decided on having three
Schools for I.app-children; we have four catechists, one will be kept
at liberty for visiting adult Lapps.

Most grateful shall I be at all times for your friendly advice,
or equally friendly reproofs, and shall pray God to give me grace
to profit by them; for

»’Tis all my business here below
To cry behold the Lamb.»

and whatever can aid me in this is good, very good. With
respectful regards from my dear wife

Believe me

Most respectfully & affect [ionately]

Yours Geo. Scott.
