HANDLINGAR TILL GEORGE SCOTTS VERKSAMHET I SVERIGE I 6 7

45. Till J. de Ron:
J. de Ron, Esq. Feb. i. 41.

Sir,

I hope I shall not be charged with a breach of propriety in
having (confidentially) shewn your last letter to the distinguished
Author of the articles on Läseriet in the Swedish Bee. He
expressed a strong desire to be allowed to make a public use of your
communication in order that the question at issue may be placed
on its proper merits, and discussed without any of those more
personal references which are always unpleasant. This of course I
would not consent to, without first requesting your permission, but I

publishing names, my own excepted, that I alone might be
answerable for the statements made & the views expressed on my side.

there seems no reason why our interchange of sentiments should be
withheld from the public. May I hope for the favour of a few words
in reply by return of Post.

I am, believe me, Sir,

Yours most respectfully

G. S.

P. S. As regards my position as a Methodist Teacher in
Sweden 1 am willing to stand or fall by the document enclosed marked #.
That document not only contains my unreserved sentiments, but being
officially adopted by the authorities under whom I act, it has with
it their full sanction & binds them to the same sentiments. But
entre nous it is really superfluous to apply to Stockholm for private
intelligence regarding my position, & dangerous to allow T[ernströ]m
to be a guide in such matters, for really he so confuses all he touches,
and so unsays to-day what he affirmed yesterday that his effusions on
