sin werkan, och PalmSöndagen den 2o:de Mars 1842, blef en
christ-lig församling i Stockholm bestående af öfver 1200 anständiga
tillbedjare störd, och Predikanten (jag sjelf) efter ofta uprepade försök
att fortsätta nödgad afbryta förrättningen, och detta af hvad som
näppeligen förtjenar benämningen »en upretad folkmängd» utan
måste, jag befarar det, anses wara ett förberedt anfall af några få.
En sådan rörelse har uppkommit häraf, att jag ansett rätt att till en
tid inställa de Swenska gudstjenster, till dess uphofsmännen i detta
skamliga uppträde komma inför rättvisan. Jag har äfven anlitat
Engelske Ministerns beskydd, hvilken, jag twiflar icke derpå, skall
bemöda sig med de Swenska auctoriteterna.
Under alla omständigheterna hade jag visst icke opåkallad vändt
mig till den Brittiska Allmänheten genom Red. med detta ämne, ty
jag är willig att stillatigande lida hvadhelst min himmelske Fader
torde tillstädja, men det är min tydliga, oundgängliga pligt att skicka
denna förklaring i följd af artiklen i Red:s blad.

Sir Thos. Cartwright,
etc. etc.
Regretting that I should have troubled your Excellency on
Monday evening last, when the event proved that the alarming
anticipations at first excited were not realised, I feel it my duty in
few words to state the cause of my proceeding in this case.
Shortly after seven o’clock a considerable crowd had collected
outside my house, which did not greatly alarm us, having been
assured by the authorities that protection would be afforded while I
voluntarily and temporarily inhibited the Swedish services, but when
a violent attack was made on first the door of the house, then on
the backgate leading to the yard, and again on the door with the
evident purpose of breaking it open, and when it appeared that not
a single police Officer was on the spot, while my wife and little
ones were in the greatest agitation expecting every moment the
rushing into the house of an excited mob, I confess I did feel
uneasy, and getting my friend who waited on your Excellency out a
