HANDLINGAR TILL GEORGE SCOTTS VERKSAMHET I SVERIGE I 6 7

82. Från J. Beeckam.1

W[esleyan] Missionary] House,

Bishopsgate S., Within, London.

April 15. 1842.

Dear Brother,

Your letters, describing the circumstances in which you are now
placed, and requesting prompt interference on our part in your
behalf, have engaged the anxious attention and consideration of the
Committee, and they have directed that there should be conveyed to
you the expression of their deep sympathy, and the assurance of
their readiness to afford you all the aid in their power.

two countries, the way would be clear. But we want more than
this. We want protection for you while prosecuting your ministry
among the Subjects of the Swedish Crown. This is altogether
another question; and Lord Aberdeen would probably tell us that
with it he cannot interfere; and that it must be referred for decision
to the Swedish Authorities as to whether the laws and institutions of
the Country allow a foreigner to officiate as a Minister of the gospel
among Swedish Subjects. And we cannot but fear that should a
