both Civill & Ecclesiasticall; they haue erected & will erect some
Prouinciall Courts of iustice: an Ecclesiasticall Court is also thought
upon: but in this nothing is as yet y:t I can learne concluded: I
haue insinuated to some the forme of our High Commission Court
as an example to bee followed: & I could wish I hadde a full &
perfect draught & description of the same to impart unto them:
perhaps it would determine their resolutions.

Amongst other thinges for w:ch this meeting was called this
was one to chuse an Archbishop of Vpsall & a Bishop of
Linco-ping; for both these Seas are vacant: but nothing hath been as yet
concluded: & in effect because the L:d Chancelour Oxenstierna did
differre his comming hither, so long y:t hee was not any more
expected: therefore the meeting was at the point of beeing dissolued
without any other effect, but this resolution which is taken in it;
y:t they will continue the warre to the utmost of their might &
sette uppe all their Hues & all their goods in it; till they can
purchase an Honorable Peace.

Now the meeting at Lubeck beeing dissolued; & the L:d
Chancelour beeing come hither; this meeting will bee continued: I
hope his presence will aduance my purpose, for I haue found his
favour in Germanye where his power was lesse then it is here:
because it is supposed, y:t here hee can effect with the Clergie
what-soeuer hee doth intend. The Lord moue their hearts & his heart
also to apprehend the matter without preiudice, & not to despise
my meannesse & simple proceedings; w:ch without some
extraordinary blessing upon the affections of those y:t are in public place;
can serue for nothing else but to make a discouerye of mens
inclinations. Yet I hope my labour shall not bee lost neither towards
God, nor in the Gospell, nor with such as loue good workes of a
public nature, of w:ch your Grace I know will alwayes bee a chief
Patron: therefore yow shall haue alwayes as I am bound in duetie
my prayers to commend yow to the Grace of God; & my desire is
to bee commended to your Grace his favour as one y:t studieth
to bee

Yowr Grace his

Most humble & obedient Seruant in Christ

John Durye.

From Stockholm this if July 1636.

To [Thomas Roe}.1
(Stockholm, 16 July 1636.)

Stockholme, 16 July [1636].
These are to aduertize you, that the L:d Channc: is arriued.
Yesterday hee saluted the Queene. I haue not spoken yet with him,
