meddelanden och aktstycken

& Festus [Hommius] l[ett]res: if hee would further condiscend to
their & my request to shew y:t there is no fundamentall
disagreement in matters of fayth betwixt vs & Lutherans, I am assured y:t
he would facilitate ye worke incredibly & if ye demonstracon of
this matter could be imp[ar]ted to mee about ye tyrne y:t I hope
to bee in Denm[ar]ke w:ch may bee (if god spare health & giue
prosp[eri]tie) 5. or 6. months hence it would bee exceedinge
seasonable to arme mee to treat with D:r Bragmannus & Hyrumius
vpon this poynt; entreat him therefore earnestly to fauour this cause
& benifit ye church of god thus much, for in very deed if this
doubt bee truly taken away the whole cause is gayned. And if
p|er]haps at our former entreaty his Lo[rdshi]p hath already
ripened any thoughts vpon this subiect I beseech you imp[ar]t them
to mee with all possible speed y:t I may make vse of them in due
tyrne.

I long also to heare from you of other matters, for this is the
season of accon cheifly in my busines w:ch in this coniuncture of
tvme may bee of infinite vse, but for my support in the cause some
meanes will be requisite. I am loath to depend wholy from
strangers, & then the charges in sending & receiuinge of letters, in
gr[ea]t Journies & trauailinge vp & downe, in keepinge
correspondence with forrayners, in causinge things to be printed and
distributed & in a word in keeping life in mee & my busines in soe
many countries how shall they bee found; but seeinge I both haue
liued & subsisted hitherto by a peculiar prouidence rather then by
my owne care or Industry therefore in relying vpon y:t same [-p[ro]uidence-] {+p[ro]-
uidence+} I will rest.

[John Durie],

To William Laud.1
(Västerås, || April 1637.)

Most Reuerend Father in God,

I am now on the way with the L:d Chancellour in a progresse
tending towards Vbsall; hee hath taken me in his Companye to
giue me occasion to propose & himself to consider particularly my
businesse: because whiles hee was at Stockholm other public affaires
kept him up from these thoughts. Now I suppose hee is sufficiently
gained to make the worke public in due tyrne, if hee gette any
encouragement of concurrence from yowr Grace & his Ma:tie;
neuer-thelesse before y:t any such motion can bee made either from hence
to yowr Grace, or from yow hither; two thinges must bee
performed: First I must haue once more Conference with the professors

1 In the Durie Collection, House of Lords.
