w[ha]t Resolution they could take. He tould me moreouer y:t the
Clergie was resolued to consider further of the worke & to [-co[m]-municate-] {+co[m]-
municate+} with the rest of their brethren aswell within as without
this Kingdome.

This is the whole issue of the meeting except y:t w:ch I yet
expect from the Lords. The fruit of it & how farre it may aduance
the worke I leaue to yowr Grace his iudgment. I conceiue y:t it
hath done good because it did ende peacablely; & because euery
man hauing libertie to propose his doubts hee did get some sort
of satisfaction: & so the worke is the lesse subiect to be blamed;
& much of that præiudice w:ch is ordinarilye in their mindes against
us is fallen; a generall resolution taken to proceede; & an ouverture
made to further treaties in due tyrne if superiors of both sides think
fitting to make the worke more public. Wherin I dare not presume
to make any motion; because I know the excellencie of yowr Grace
his wisdome in iudging of all circomstances & fitt opportunities
better then I can doe in respect of public matters y:t haue a
relation to states.

I haue hadde priuat conference with the chief of the Clergie
upon seuerall occasions & find a peculiar affection to our Churches
aboue the rest; the matter of Gouvernment in the short draught,
w:ch I haue receiued of the Ecclesiasticall Courts doth like them
well; & the Lord Chancelour also seemeth to co[m]mend it: I am
busie now in the translation of the Patent authorizing the High
Commission Court: it hath beene longed for much before it came
to my hands; because the L:d Chancelour is full of those thoughts:
but because hee is exceeding slow & close in his resolutions I dare
not promise any thing or coniecture how farre hee will make use
of it: neither is hee a man to bee much wrought upon except his
owne affection open it self & giue occasion to a discreet
insinuation. I know not my self what to resolue concerning the
conve-niencie of my staying or going in or from this place. 1 will therin
follow the inclination of the Regents; & if perhaps it should bee
expedient for me to reside any while here; I will bee forced to
entreat your Grace his favour, y:t my licence to bee absent from
my cure of Saxbye may bee renewed. Thus taking my leaue &
praying to almighty God as in duetie I am bound to blesse yow,
I rest

Yowr Grace his

Most obedient & humble seruant
in Christ at Command
John Durye.

Stockholm this 29 July 1637.
