Stockholme 29 of July 1637].

I haue difFerred till this tyrne the relation of the meeting w:ch
was held here; aboute Ecclesiasticall matters; where in my busines
was taken also amongst other things into consideration: because I
could not satisfie my selfe fully in the Judgm[en]t of the resolution
w:ch they had taken & what hopes there were of proceeding further
with them: now since I haue spoken with the Lord Chanc: & haue
some more light I will lett you know the particulars of their whole
proceeding soe farre as they are materiall that from thence you may
gather what hopes there may bee hereafter of bringing the worke
to some publicke issue: after that all their owne affaires for w:ch
they were cheifly called hither (w:ch did concerne the Establishing
of some Bishops, the inaguration of the Archb[isho]p: the Erecting
of some new schooles: the ordering of diuers matters, & reforming
of some abuses: both in the schooles, & in the vniuersitie, & also
in some churches beelonging to their iurisdiccon without this
king-dome) were concluded: The L:d Chanc: made a peculiar proposition
unto them concerning my busines: giueing them a Com[m]annd in
write in the name of the L:ds Regents: to take it into their
con-sideracon & to declare themselues unto them in it: there vpon I
was called into their meeting, & the L:d Archb[isho]p of Vpsall
after prayers sung in Latine, by the whole assembly: related the
Comanndement giuen by the Regents concerning my worke: & told
mee that their intention was to conferre with mee: to conceiue what
hopes their might bee of bringing soe good a worke to passe, to
the effecting where of haueing laid the sentence of the vniuersitie
of Vpsall as a foundation where vnto all did agree; he said that
the Assembly thought it expedient to conferre with mee aboute the
matters contavned there in: & soe begining with the first Article he
desired mee not to take it in euill p[år]te if they should proceede
with mee by way of questions, to w:ch I was desired to giue direct
answers; I replyed that I would doe soe; there vpon hee begun to
aske mee diuers questions in diuinitie takeing the matter from the
Articles of the Creede; to all the questions I gaue a direct answer
soe that they did rest satisfied therein: but I doubting what the end
or issue of such a conference might bee; & haueing perceiued that
two scribes were sitting behind my backe w:ch did write vp all my
words: I told the Lord Archbishop and the whole Assembly that
I did answere all those questions in my owne name, as giueing a
confession of my faith unto them; seing they seemed desireous to
know it: thereupon I was asked whether or no all the reformed
