must resolue to stay, & with a kind of patient resolutenesse, & milde
resista[n]ce see if hee can bee worne out of his passions &
reluc-tancies grounded upon his owne imaginarie iealousies & some endes
y:t are not worth to bee related.

I haue translated word by word the patent of the High [-com-|m]ission-] {+com-
|m]ission+} but haue not as yet offered it to the L:d Chancelour; not
y:t I haue wanted oportunitie; but because I think it fitte (seeing
matters are fallen out so) not to deliuer it till, through the agitation
of this businesse it bee most seasonable to present it to him: or till
hee shew a further desire of it: for perhaps the issue of this matter
w:ch the Bishop of Westerose hath begunne against me in a
turbulent way; will bee the settling of some orders; & then to produce
it will bee usefull; I am also loath to seeme to obtrude it, lest they
might think y:t I haue another ende, then to gratifye them with
the communication. & then I dare not yet throughly see how farre
the L:d Chancelour will shew himself in this case where there is
danger of oposition: hee told me the last weeke y:t his resolution
was before the Bishop of Westerose did thus behaue himself
inordi-natly to haue giuen me a convenient dispatch ; & after my
departure; to haue called in due tyrne another meeting of more of the
Clergie; wherin a more full resolution should haue beene taken;
with which resolution there should one haue beene sent from hence
to our Churches: but since this unruly man taketh such a Course
hee was at a stand; & I doe suppose y:t hee will not venture, if
hee doth not see a cleere way to cary the matter without strife. So
all my difficultie will bee to deale with this man of strife in a
peacable way; y:t if the Chancelour will proceede in a more public
■course, hee may find the way cleere before hee appeare too much
for me. Tyrne, diligence, & discreet cariadge must bring all to
maturitie; therefore I can as yet make none other resolution, but
y:t it will bee necessarye for me to spend this winter here; w:ch,
although I must confesse will bee somewiha]t tedious unto me; yet
I am not auerse from it, partly for the hopes of gaining so good a
cause, partly not to loose y:t w:ch is gained alreddie, or seeme to
yeeld to unreasonable opposition & so giui[n]g all my labour lost
make the case worse then before, & preclude a passage to futur
possibilities of treaties in this nature.

I know yowr Grace will bee willing to doe w:t is expedient in
due tyrne; I labour y:t the rise should come from hence to us; when
the circumstances yeeld it yowr Grace will bee able to iudge w:t is
to bee done in public better then I: my care therefore shall bee
to make these knowen so farre as I conceiue them to bee
mater-iall: one thing neuerthelesse I must craue to bee pardoned; y:t I
can not write so often when matters go crosse as when the
proceedings are hopefull; because I am loath to tell euill newes; & I rather
labour to ouercome y:t w:ch is amisse, then to discourse much of
