last a good Issue. When it pleaseth God to strengthen me & give
me mö[r]e vigour you shall haue more thoughts of mine vpon the
matter of fundamentals.

[John Durie].

To [Thomas Roe].1
(Stockholm, 14 Oct. 1637.)

Stockholme, 14 Octob[er] [1637].

I pray God the other negociation you know of be not a meanes
to [increase] the lord Chancellour his affection in my worke for I
am the Cause of Byrespects to w:ch Politicians are subject vnto.
I hope the fury of the B[isho]pp of Westerose is past & that the
lord Chancellour in this his Journy will have appeased it. If he
be quiet p[er]haps we shall begin where we left off at the meeting
& gaine soe much with those of Vpsall & the Archb[isho]pp as
wilbe a ready grownd to proceede in the publique; For all that he
of Westerose doth strive for is to stop & suppresse a further
con-intention & I labour to tye them faster & faster to this obligacon.
Now if I should yeild my labour is lost, therefore I see a necessity
of staying till I know what resolution wilbe taken.

The Danish Agent here hath bene earnest a while agoe to
seeke my acquantance, I find him very desireous to further all that
he can in Denmarke but I must be first at a period here. In the
meane tyrne how shall I subsist cheifely if I should become weaker
then I am; he that did call me hither is gone away, soe I am left
to the Providence of God & your Care w:ch you haue shewed very
constantly towards me; I haue received the beneficence long agoe
w:ch my lord of Durham sent me for w:ch I thanke him & you.
If I were once out of the straights of this Negociation a little at
large againe I would give him an account, But now I pray you to
make my excuses that I am loth to trouble him with tedious matters
neither is there any remedy for them but pacience & Constancy in
waiting the tyrne to overcome vnreasonable Courses of selfe
Conceited spirits, that for private ends goe ag[ains]t Conscience, reason
& Religion; theire owne doeings will intrap them & make them
odious, but here are not many, onely one doth shew himselfe &
therefore I haue the lesse Cause to yeild because I hope the
authority will Interpose itselfe & if not yet I see a way to make a faire
retreate & keepe a tye vpon those that haue already declared
them-selues forward enough till matters in due tyrne may be further
ripened both amongst themselues here & ellswhere abroad. The
seede is sowen, it must haue tyrne to roote in the grownd. Now
the lord that hath all mens hearts in his hands give the encrease.

[John Durie].
