Stockholme, 20 Jan. [1638].

In my busines my hopes beginne to revive not only of
Co-meing off faire but of gaineing ground, Por the B[isho]pp of
Wester-ose is not only quiet, but alsoe beginneth to insinuate some meanes
of reconcilem[en]t with me but I stand at a distance; when the
Cheiffe matters of State are ended in this Parliam[en]t my worke
will be taken in Consideration, yet 1 feare much that Mr. B:[s]
busines and this last message that I have delivered will stand in
the way. The Danish Agent whoe is here is very solicitous about
me to have me in Denmarke; when I am gone from hence I have
made a promise to goe thither, he hath informed there of my [-Præ-cecings[?]-] {+Præ-
cecings[?]+} the Lord Chancelour Frise a long while agoe, and saith
that I shall receive good entertainem[en]t. But my present care is
to make this retrait soe faire that I need not feare any Clamors
after my departure, And that a ground may be left for favourable
acceptance, yf ever I should be suffered to returne.

The weight of my present thoughts and the vncertainty of all
matters doth make me vnable to write to others at this time, for
I am loath to promise more then is as yett effected, till I see that
all is sure, and noe feare to be had of any backblowes such as
heretofore the B[isho]pp of Westerose hath vndertaken to give me
herein. I hope by the grace of God he shall be soe foyled, that
