To [Thomas Ro er].1
(Stockholm, 17 Febr. 1638.)

Stockholme the 17 Feb: 1638.

To write at large neither will my leisure nor spirit give me
leave, neyther is the worke yet come soe farre that it can yeild a
full Narrative. Nevertheles I would not seeme to forgett you &
neglect my dutie, Therefore in fewe wordes this is all. The [-B[i-sho]pp-] {+B[i-
sho]pp+} of Westerose hath laboured and doth still labour to doe his
worst, He hath againe begunne to rayle in publique and stirred vp
some others to doe the like. But I am not moved at it, I have
offered to give him satisfaction to any thing that he hath to say
against me or my p[ro]ceedings eyther before Arbitrators or
otherwise in write yf he will sett downe his greevances against me; but
as yet he is silent. I caused alsoe for the information of the rest
of the Clergie in this place (least he should preposesse them with
lyes against me) print a short Narrative of twoe sheetes of paper
wherein the heads of matters are sett downe. I tould the Lord
Chancelour of it before, he did not dissalowe of the purpose, But
tould me nevertheles he feared they might take it ill. I shewed
howe necessary it was to be done, and soe proceeded and
distributed afterwards publiquely in the full assembly Copies. This
free-dome of proceeding hath dasht and troubled the B[isho]pp of
Westerose and he is mightily puzzled, for he laboureth by all meanes to
make that to be taken ill but he gayneth litle grounde or none at
all, for I perceive that all the Lords and the more Learned of the
Clergie are well pleased with that proceeding and are desireous to
have more Copies. I heare that the B[isho]pp after many motions
made to the assembly hath not bene able to prevaile but that a
generall good Likeing was declared towards the scope which in soe
greate a meeting2; Nowe he bestirreth himselfe and hath moved ye
Archb[isho]p to give way that an answere or rather a declaration
