meddelanden och aktstycken

To [Samuel Har tlib].1

(Stockholm, 21 April 1638.)

Stockholme, 21. Aprill [1638].

You see by these enclosed what State my busynes is in, &
what my further intentions are, and what the causes of these
oppositions & letts are. I pray you vpon occasion giue thankes to
S:r John Skitt[= Skytte], and to the Lord Channcellour in a speciall
manner for ye good will and fauour which they haue shewed vnto
mee & my worke hitherto.

Your last of the 9:th of March is come to my hand, wherein
I see your great care & zeale, for wxh I thanke you. As you
prouide worke for others from mee, soe I see you furnish mee with
abundance of taskes, but who shall free my spirit from these thorny
distractions wherein I sticke at present. I trust in god through
Jesus Christ, who hitherto hath led mee in a strange way &
pro-uidence, therefore I faint not in these straites, but when I am most
silent towards you, as of låte I haue beene in not writinge as I
was wont weekely to doe, then you must conceiue y:t I am eyther
ouerwhelmed with a burden of necessary or sad thoughts. I cannot
relate the halfe of the passages of my worke, & of the writes wxh
I must (or else thinke I must) prepare & haue in readines at all
aduentures, or leaue here when I am gone, to dispose further the
spirits, & to preuent backeblowes. I doe pant like a wearied
tra-uellour in the heate of the day for some rest and liberty to thinke
myne owne thoughts without these distractinge feares of opposition
vnder wxh I must ly soe longe, as I am here. Therefore 1 will
make all the hast I can to bee gone, and in Denmarke p[er]haps
seeke some rest where I will if it please god set myself wholly to
the p[er]fectinge of the Analyticall method, of interpretinge the
scriptures.

In ye meane tyrne that I bee forced to stay here longer then
I am resolued, you may assure Mr. S:t A[mand] that I shall not
forget my promise wxh sore against my will I haue been forced
all this while to intermit by reason of the endles disturbances wxh
the vnreasonablenes of Carnall men haue put mee vnto, of wxh I
cannot speake at this tyrne. And least I come short of some kind
of p[er]formance as soone as Peter hath leisure from transcribinge
of other necessary matters I will cause him gather out of diuers
writes all the seuerall passages wherein I mention the Analyticall
way by small hints, and some larger tracts that at least out of
many parcells you may haue some more light, till I bee able to
discouer the whole mystery in a full and orderly way; when I haue
done here and am come to Elsenheure, I purpose to enforme all
