»He who keeps his heart within, he it is who receives the
light of contemplation. For they that still think immoderately of
external things, know not what are the chinks of contemplation from
the eternal light. For that infusion of incorporeal light is not
received along with the images of corporeal things; because while
only visible things are thought of, the invisible light is not admitted
to the mind.»1
Unio är alltså en infusio lucis. — KürleksVdn\icn intager
även hos Gregorius en framträdande plats:
»For since it (själen) has fallen by them (de världsliga
bilderna) beneath itself, it endeavours without them to rise above itself:
and after it has been in unseenly männer scattered over the Many,
it strives to gather itself together to the One (in unum se colligere
nititur), that if it can prevail by the great force of love, it may
con-template the Being that is one and incorporeal.»2 — »Sometimes
the soul is admitted to some unwonted sweetness of interiör relish,
and is suddenly in some way refreshed when breathed ön by the
glowing spirit; and is the möre eager the möre it gains a taste of
something to love.»3 — »Holy men, with the feeling of delight, are
caught away unto interiör things from the strifle of temporal desires,
so that whilst their mind is streched wholly to the love of God, it
is not rent and torn by any useless anxieties, and it hides itself in
the bosom of inward love from all the disquietudes of external
things.»4 — »Falling back upon herself (from a contemplation) the
soul is drawn to Him with closer bonds of love, whose marvellous
sweetness, being unable to bear, she has but just tasted of under
an indistinct vision.»5 — »When the mind tastes that inward
siveetness, it is ön fire with love.»6
