2-]Ö MEDDELANDEN OCH AKTSTYCKEN

without any variation, ever since Mr. Wh.d adopted those opinions.
The Consequences of that Difference are touched upon in the
Letter sent two or 3 years ago to the persons named therein.

6. There are only Three Methodist-Societies in America, otie
at Philadelphia, one at New York & one twelve miles from it.
There are Five Preachers there; two have been at New York for
some years; Three are lately gone over. Mr. YVh.d has published
a particular account of every thing relative to the Orphan-house.

7. The most eminent Writers ag.st the Methodists are the låte
Bishop of London (Dr. Gibson), Dr. Church, the Bishop of
Glocester (Dr. Warburton) & Bishop Lavvington. Bishop Gibson &
Lawington were throughly convinced of their mistake before they
died. I believe Dr. Church was so too. None, I think, but Mr.
Perronet has wrote for ye Methodists.

8. No Moravians belong to their Societies. They have no
con-siderable Settlements in England, but at London, Bedford, &
Pud-sey, a little town near Leeds in Yorkshire. They make a profound
secret of every relating to their Community. What I know of them,
I have published in the Iournals. The Count’s [?] House at Chelsea
is a Palace for a Prince. Truly they are wise in their generation 1

[John Wesley].

Dear Sir,1

Tho I hope shortly to have the pleasure of seeing you, yet I
cannot but write a line, to return your thanks, for your favour
of the twenty fourth instant. lf any other of the träets which we
have written or published, would be acceptable to you, I will order
them to be sent to Mr. Ley’s, or any other place wch you are
pleased to appoint. Never was there any thing weh I less desired
or expected some years since, than

Virum volitare per ora,
having from my infancy loved silence & obscurity. But we carne
not into the world to do our own Will. Happy are we, if we are
always ready to do and to suffer the will of Him that sent us!
Desiring a remembrance in your Prayers, I remain, Dear Sir,
The Foundery Your Affectionate Servant

• 30 Nov.r 1769. John Wesley.
