10. Whether one ought to put faith in alleged
revelations other than those recorded in the Scriptures.
11. What support the Scriptures give to the
doctrine of purgatory.
12. Whether one ought to worship and pray to the
saints, and whether they are our defenders, patrons,
mediators, and intercessors before God.
As against the power of the prelates, Olavus Petri
asserts the common priesthood of all Christians,
manifested in their right and duty to pray for one another
and to comfort and reprove each other according to
Scripture. Olavus Petri taught and maintained that
the priesthood is a ministration of the Word of God,
not worldly domination.
Paul Heliae, after having received the Twelve
Questions from the king and the answers by Peder Galle
and Olavus Petri, wrote a letter to the king, warning
him against the Lutheran doctrine and adding a sharp
rebuke for his avarice. To this Olavus Petri in 1528
made answer in a pamphlet entitled, "A Brief Letter to
Pkul Heliae of the Carmelite Order in Denmark" (Itt
fogho sendebreff til Paulu Helie aff Carmeliters orden
j danmarck). Being quite bitter in tone throughout, it
closes with this explanation: "That I have here and in
my former writing on this subject spoken somewhat
harshly is not, I admit, in accord with Christian
meekness, but rather with your rancor.. .1 have spared you,
