From the Royal Printing Office, which published all
the works of Olavus Petri, was issued this same year
"A Little Book on the Sacraments". While it was*
published anonymously, there is no doubt of Olavus
Petri’s authorship. He mentions but two sacraments,
baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and asserts here the
reformatory principles embodied later in his Hand-book,
i. e., Church Book, (Een handbook pad Swensko) and
Missal (Then Swenska Massan). Immediately
afterwards he published under his own name three tracts:
"On Marriage" (Een liten vnderuisning om
Echteska-pet)j "Oh Monastic Life" (Een liten boock j huilko
closterleffwerne forclarat warder), and "On God’s
Word and Man’s Decrees" (Om gudz ordh och
men-niskios bodh och stadhgar). He pointed out, among
other things, that church forms and usages, however
necessary they may be, are subject to change, allowing
that many old practices should be retained until the
people should have been better taught, rather than to
give offense to the untutored by abrupt changes.
In 1528 Olavus Petri published also "An Useful
Postil" (En nyttog postilla), comprising twenty-seven
sermons and homilies translated from Luther’s Church
Postil. He explained at the outset that "many of the
simple clergy have complained that they are not well
