bread, one body: for we all partake of the one bread.
And as we become one with Christ, so we surely shall
remain with Him in eternity. Inasmuch as this
sacrament is received unto the forgiveness of sins and
justification before God, it is rightly used by those who,
feeling oppressed by their sins, earnestly desire to be rid
of them; who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
though weak in the faith through which they are to
receive all these things. Hence this sacrament is of great
use to them. Yea, to them alone, but not to them that
falsely rely on their own righteousness and freedom
from sin; for the latter do not hunger and thirst for
righteousness and forgiveness, the which they claim to
have already received. From this it doth appear that
it is wrong to compel people, by rules and statutes, to
go to the Lord’s table, whether or not they have this
hunger. Let it also be remarked that manifest sinners
and such as will not abandon their evil ways should not
be suffered to partake of this sacrament, inasmuch as
they are not moved thereto by the aforesaid hunger for
righteousness and the forgiveness of sin, seeing that

they still hold fast to a life of sin.–-"

Appended to the postil was the Catechism of Olavus
Petri, which, like Luther’s larger catechism, was
designed as an aid to the clergy in religious instruction.
While following Luther in the main, he writes
independently, his explanations of the Lord’s Prayer being
