have liked to have seen that offer made to the
opponents whom you have hought off; I should
have liked to have seen that offer of arbitration
terms made to the Railway Companies or to the
Electric and InternationalCompany?,— Theprin
ciple is arbitration from first to last.
2021. Yes; arbitration as far as shall con
ceal what the public have to pay, aud we have
no wish that the public should know what they
have got to pay. We are quite willing to come
into the secret treaty with them if you only give
us our valne. We will assist you in concealment
as far as ever you like; we have no objection;
we do not want to let the cat out of the bag
any more thau anybody else, if you will only
deal fairly with us; if you will give us 20 years’
purchase and then arbitration as to what Mr.
Mantalini calls the total. We will wait until we
see what the Submarine Company have got? —

Railway Companies? — No, we do not thinlc of
doing so; so much is referred to arbitration, and
if any amount ivas agreed upon the competing
pariies for the plunder ivould all take advantage
of it; we could not do that without doing the ar~
bitratoVs work.

Beløbet; han er villig til at sælge, dersom han

somt; og vi ere villige til at kjøbe, dersom han vil
tage mod vor Pris.
2023. Og dersom De aldeles ikke kan kom
me til Enighed derom, saa er De jo fuldkommen
villig til at den skal bestemmes paa Basis af
Yoldgift? — Utvivlsomt.
2249. Hr. Norwood. Jeg antager, at De
vil forelægge Komitéen et Slags tilnærmolsesvis
Overslag over det Beløb, som De vil have at be
tale til Telegraferne og til Jernbanekompagnier
ne? — Nei, vi tænke ikke at gjøre dette; saame
get er henvist til Voldgift, og dersom man gik ind
paa noget Beløb, vilde alle de, der tragte efter
Byttet, benytte sig deraf. Vi kunne ikke gjøre
dette, uden at gjøre Voldgiftsmandens Arbeide.
