De circulis vernalibus.

CAP. XVI.

GENERANTVR & alii circuli albi, ampli, ac densi,
iridem includentes cum coloribus suis, supposito circulo
fusco, qui omnes reflexu atrarum nubium, & albedineCirculorum varietas
densissimæ nivis, faciem terræ totaliter cooperientis, præsertim
mense Februario, ac Martio, ob solis elongationem,
& obliquitatem, videntur. Effectus autem eorum parum
per a superioribus differentes retinent, nisi quod atrioresCirculorum effectus
nubes inferioris circuli, vehementiores imminere præsagiunt
tempestates. Hancque causam etiam maritimæ aves
rapaces, e mari ad campos fugientes, incessabili garritu præsagire, signareque videntur.
Sed hæ, similesque tempestates (vt superius de turbine dictum est) non diuViolenta minus durabilia.
durant: quanto nanque sunt impetu vehementiores, tanto durabilitate breviores.
Estque notandum, quod solis lumen caligine obsessum, quandoque majori anni
temporis spatio pallens globus, & sine splendore oriens, : imbecillem, ac tenuemObscurus - aër noxius.
e se calorem emittit. Quare gravis, ac dispartientis imbecillitate caloris obscurus
aër, semicoctos edit fructus immaturos, & impersecto flore collabentes. Tantum
aëri frigus ingerit, vt pavendæ exinde sequi videantur sterilitates: eoque hæc, & similia
horribiliora eveniunt, quo circuli latiores extra orbem solarem in atrioribus
nimbis, nubibusque conspiciuntur. Accidit etiam, sive hac, sive alia causa dirarumExhalationum effectus.
exhalationum, vt ingentia arborum robora in nemoribus deiiciantur: intumescant
vltra solitum alveum flumina: rumpantur aggeres: infinita hominum, iumentorumque
multitudo interimatur: casuque profundissimarum nivium
invia reddantur itinera. geluque intolerabili superveniente,
viatores nec antrorsum, nec retrorsum evadere cupientes,
nec valentes, repentina miseria intercipiantur.
Dequibus angustiis infra de
bellis nivalibus nonnulla terribiliora
videbuntur.
