                                        ERAT olim in sacrificiis Gothorum , vt in historia Sueonum
Novenarii numeri observatio.                                        Gothorumque lib. I. cap . XII. comprehenditur ,
                                        numeri novenarii observatio admodum accepta : forte quia
Pythagorica philosophia.                                        Pythagorica philosophia ( quam ab Salmoxe , & Diceneo
                                        dicticerant ) monuerit,numerum imparem in omnibus præponi
                                        oportere. Et quamuis diis sujs summum cultum hebdomadatim ,
                                        & quotidie exhiberent : tamen omni nono
                                        mense solenniorem venerationem ipsis impendentes , novem
                                        dies sacrificiis rite, ac religiose absoluendis tribuerunt:
Novem animantium genera.singulisque diebus novem animantium genera immolabant : quibus etiam humanas
hostias adjungebant. At post novendium per summam totius regni celebritatem
Novendiales feriæ templum Vpsaliæ antedictum frequentissimo incolarum accessu visitabatur : ibique
novendialibus feriis , & præscripto sacrificiorum numero diis libamenta ad aram
Homo.mactabantur . Homo autem , quem fors immolandum obtulerat , in fontem , qui
ad locum sacrificiorum scaturiebat , vivus immergebatur : qui si facile efflaret animam ,
faustum renuntiavere sacerdotes votum : moxque inde ereptum in vicinum nemus ,
Suspensus.quod sacrum credebant , suspendentes , inter deos translatum affirmabant.
Quo factu erat , vt beatum se crederet , qui ea immolatione ex vivis excederet.
Reges sacrificati.Accidit nonnunquam Reges ipsos simili forte delectos victimari . Quod quia
stissimum regno libamen æstimabatur , totius populi multitudo cum summa congratulatione
tam insignem victimam prosequebatur . Enimuero sic defunctos non
Gothi excellentius sapientiæ studuerunt.omnino mori , sed tam illos , quam seipsos immortales esse persuasum habebant :
maxime ex Salmoxe , Zenta , Diceneo ,vt Dion , Ablabius , Iordanes , Strabo ,
& alii referunt : qui & asserunt , Gothos multis rationibus excellentius sapientiæ
Cothi immortalitatem tenuere.studuisse:ideoque opinionem de immortalitate animæ induisse,que(vt ait Herodotus lib.IIII.)
se mori non putantes dicerent,eos qui vita functi essent,in alium quempiam locum amœniorem
