De pontibus comburendis.

CAP. VI.

                                        INGRVENTIBVS bellis acrioribus penes pontes,
& flumina terrarum Septentrionalium Gothorum, & Suecorum,
hæc provisio per diligentiores bellorum præfectos
celerius opponi solet. Dum etenim impossibile sit hostem
Trabes igniferae.                                         æquis armis a pontibus elicere, vel arcere posse, parantur
superiori fluminis situm maxime trabes, lateraliter viminibus
colligatæ: super quas ingentes aridorum lignorum strues,
cæteraque combustibilia insigni magnitudine, & horrore
reponuntur: quibus succensis, rapido casu fluminis vsque
pontes dimittuntur continue comburendos. Nec facile ardentes illæ moles hostium
Sagittæ per aëra sublimi projecta, violentius lædunt. conatu extingui possunt: in qui enim struxere flammam, mox sagittas in sublime directas,
violentius in eos descendere cogunt. Occurrit & aliud ingenium, quo pontes
post tergum, vel in insidiis latitantes, vel fugam simulantes disrumpere solent
subtus interscindendo serra, more Cæsaris lib. II. qui & asserit lib. VI. tantam fieri
Pontes serra subtus scinduntur. ducum contentionem propter pontes, vt nedum quotidiana prælia propter eos
subeant, sed & fluminis ripis appropinquantes, coangustati præcipitentur, vt alteri
Mors morti, et tumulus tumulo exaggerant. alteris non solum morti mortem exaggerent, sed tumulos tumulis
submerforum exæquent. Quo casu magno honore ii satellites
remunerandi sunt, qui dominos, vel principes
Principes capillis trahuntur. suos capillis trahentes, littori restituunt,
& libertati.
De marum
