CAP. XXIX.

Milites providi.                                         SOLENT plerique milites
                                        providi in locis marinis,
                                        seu stagnalibus belligerantes,
                                        dum artem
                                        natandi non habeant, secum
                                        comportare coriarium
                                        saccum cum fistula
                                        affixa, qua culeum ipsum
                                        sub brachiis ad collum
Saccus coriarius insufflatusi extollit natantem. ligatum insufflare poterint, ita vt gravior
pars corporis sit infra saccum: qui e corio cervino
( vnde pila conficitur) debet consui amplitudine
palmari, in forma rotunda, quasi pectoralia
trahentium equorum in curru. Fistula autem
Modus securus nandi. subtilis sit in parte anteriori, dum sufficienter saccus
ille fuerit aëre impletus, et colligatus: eoque modo
securissime homo nudus, vel armatus modica
manus, & pedum motione sese, quo velit, transferre
possit. Sed cavendum est, ne caput inclinet
deorsum, ne forte ventus culeo inclusus graviori
Cautela conservandæ vitae in extrema necessitate. mole succumbat. Qui obsidione strictiori
marino situ inclusi sunt, vel latis fossis, ne exeant,
impeditos se vident, eo remedio suæ libertati
consulunt, vbi omnis spes adempta est evadendi per scaphas.

CAP. XXX.

NANDI tamen vsum & peritiam, si quis anteacta ætate
Iulius Cæsar.                                         per habitum susceperat, plurimam sibi, & Reipublicæ reservatus
afferre poterit vtilitatem, prout Iulium Cæsarem
plures historiæ feliciter fecisse confirmant, præsertim cum
Alexandriam impugnaret, vbi hostium irruente multitudine
nando fugere sit coactus, vt superiori cap. demonstratur.
                                        Meminere præterea diligentes historici mirabile
Sertorius.                                         robur Sertorii, qui in bello Cimbrico graviter vulneratus,
equum amisit, & indutus thoraca, & scutum, atque arma
tenen, Rhodanum fluvium rapacissimum per adversos fluctus plurimum nando trajecit,
Silius poëta Italicus. & non sine magna hostium admiratione ad suos pervenit: cujus laudes Italicus
poëta Silius his versibus egregie laudat:
Ipse inter medios venturæ ingentia laudis
Signa dabat, vibrare sudem, transmittere saltu,
Muraleis
