CAP. XIII.

                                        QVIA receptum est apud veteres, quomodo Ceres frumentaCeres frumenti in ventrix.
                                        invenerit, & Pan conspersas fruges coxisse perhibetur: vnde
                                        & nomine eius panis est appellatus. Ita & illa prædicata estPanis a Pan.
                                        quod reperit, & iste laudatus qui decenter humanis vsibus
                                        applicavit. Ideoque videndum hic erit, quæ frugum genera
                                        ad hunc necessarium vsum afferuntur, & quibus hoc officium
                                        competit apud homines Septentrionales: qui vt in regiones
                                        multipiices tam situ, quam moribus distincti differunt, Regiones separatæ.
                                        & separati sunt: ita etiam terræ nascentia pro qualitate regionum,
& climatum, variata videntur. Quanto igitur magis ad Aquilonem acceditur, Triticum vbi abundat vel deficit.
tanto minor tritici vbersas, & major ad Austrum vbilibet invenitur. Sueonibus
tamen, sive Suecis, immensa vis tritici, sed major siliginis est concessa. GothisAbundantia hordei pro pane & potu.
vero tam Orientalibus, quam Occidentalibus, vtentibus hordeo & avena, indeficiens
abundantia pro cibo & potu propitio numine est largita. Omnium tamen harum frugum
vtrobique vsus est. Sed diligentior siliginis præparatio apud Sueones: quorumSiligo redditur albissima.
fœminæ ita noverunt purgare siliginem, vt colore, sapore, ac sanitate exuperet frumenti
bonitatem.

CAP. XIIII.

                                        DIEBVS calidissimis ferventei sole, pannos instar velorum
                                        navalium, sive ipsa vela, late super faciem terræ, vel planos,
                                        ac nudos montes extendunt, ac desuper torrendam frugemFrumenta torrentur.
                                        diebus sex, vel pluribus, aut paucioribus, juxta solis ardorem
                                        imponunt: deinde eam purgatam, in quercinis repositoriis
                                        collocant, vel in farinam redactam simili custodia servant:
                                        multosque in annos sic torrefacta, integritate salva perdurat. Frumenta per secula durant.
                                        Attamen si molita farinam non sit, sed fruges, expedit
                                        vt interim soli obiiciatur semel in anno retorrendat: eoque modo
nova fruges tosta, poterit illi, ne deficiat, quoties opus fuerit, sagaciter commisceri.
Farina autem in quercinis vasis, aut cupis forti ligneorum malleorum impulsuFarma.
intrusa, locoque sicco reposita, sine quacumque vermium corrosione pluribus annis durare
