CAP. XI.

                                        SOLENT tamen pii parentes præcipue cavere, ne proles
                                        eorum turpes addiscant cantilenas, aut turpes exhibere
                                        corporis gestus, neve innocentes mille scandalis lædant.
                                        Nec vero negandum erit, quin aliquis in tanta multitudine
                                        exiliens Hymenæus, velut Veneris Bacchique filius, ex
                                        officio ad nuptias & thalamos psallere solitus, libidinosas
                                        & lascivas excitet imaginationes, ac operationes. Sed
                                        nunquam visum, nec auditum est, quod ad turpitudinem
Mulieres nunquam nudo spectaculo se ostendunt                                         populi applausu, vel abdito loco, aliqua mulier seipsam
(contempta naturali verecundia monstraverit inspiciendam: quia ea Diogenis Cynica
secta, nusquam in Septentrionalibus populis repugnate pudore obtinuerat locum:
Secta Diogenis quam B. Augustinus, aliique graves autores, gentilitate Romanorum, velut impurissimam
& detestabilissimam, introductam fuisse attestantur: de qua etiam Perottus
Plato prohibet turpes cantus in Commentariis suis, nescio quam caute, legentibus plurima exempla producit .
Non fuisset contemnenda Platonis censura lib. II. de legibus: vbi sub constituta

ad publicam statuam ignominiis plenam, vehementissimis chordis, ac asperrimis
virgis cæsi, bonisque omnibus privati, extra domima eorum, & portam civitatis.
ministerio tortorum educti, perpetuo sunt proscripti, domusque solo æquata, sub
lege annexa, ne quis eam vllo vnquam tempore inhabitaret. Fundus,
Iacobus Campr mercator Gedanensis & domus hæc cuidam famosissimo mercatori, Iacobo
Campen nomine, attinebat: huncque locum cum eorum
sententiam prædicti magistratus approbante,
aliquoties vidi.
