CAP. XXII.

Hastiludium nautarum.                                         EST & aliud nauticum genus torneamentorum, generali spectaculo
                                        sæpissime intuendum: in quo scilicet clypeis, & hastis
                                        muniti naucleri, in puppi navicularum stantes, sociorum
                                        remigantium impetuosissimo tractu se mutuo impingunt:
Cadentes retrahuntur.                                         ambo tamen ventrotenus laxato fune ligati servantur,
                                        vt cadentes e gurgite, ne illico suffocentur, educi possint:
                                        vbi pariter ceciderint ab vtraque puppi, denuo repositi, pro
                                        instituta priori victoria pertinacius certent. Nec cessant,
                                        donec alteri eorum victoria cedat, vel pari casu certamen
Causæ certaminis. ( composita causa ) dissolvant. Causæ vero hujusmodi aquatici torneamenti hæc, aut
similis esse solet, vt vel exercitii gratia id faciant: vel pœnis navalibus adacti aquis
puniantur, qui verbis, aut factis insolentius in aquis excedunt: vel etiam in portubus
moroso sub anchoris vento navigia retardante, vel Principis aftantis aspectu
Ars vrinatoria hoc casu vtilis. videantur, quam fortes, experti, ac animosi sint nautæ in eorum torneamentis, atque
si opus fuerit, arte vrinatoria, vt aliquid marino fundo illapsum recipiant,
exercitati. Hi tamen in eo congressu semper audaciores
sunt, quibus ars natandi quasi a pueris connata est,
vt necesse non sit vti præsidio funiculi
alligati.
