De Hircis, & Capris.

CAP. XXIII.

Hircorum maxima abundantia in terris aquilonis.                                         HIRCORVM, & caprarum in Aquilonaribus terris
longe major est abundantia, quam in reliquis Europæ locis,
ob montana pascua, & pastorum caprariorum diligentissimam
curam. Hirci itaque ibidem sunt magno corpore,
crassis cruribus, brevi & plena cervice, auribus flexis
& depressis, parvo capite, longo, spisso ac nitido collo,
cornibus altis & latis, animosi, bellicosi, & robusti,
ita Vt lupis mediocribus, canum tamen auxilio, congredi
Hirci fere omnes albi.                                         non formident. Fere omnes colore albi sunt: ita & capræ,
ac hœdi. Hyeme pascuntur pinearum arborum corticibus, atque musco, & populeis
Quæstus pellium. virgis. Pelles eorum maximis navigiis quæstus & lucri causa, decadumque numero
exportantur ad Germanicas oras: vbi rursus amplius disperguntur in orbem. Similiter
& casei, propter efficaciam nutrimenti, ac medicinæ, scilicet stupidæ ac ingrossatæ
Carnes crudæ caprarum eduntur. carnis, vel turgentis. Carnibus caprinis crudis, sole, sale, ventoque siccatis, incolæ
avidius vescuntur, quam illico mactatis: idque tempore æstatis, & agriculturæ.
Prognostica exhircis. Nautis in anchoris ventum convenientem expectantibus, magnam securitatem
locorum mutatione, in littoribus præstant pascentes capræ, eo quod naturali instinctum,
immo ad exonerandam vermium molestiam, vadunt contra ventos: qui etsi
austeri
